Accessibility note: While we wish to offer more accessible farming experiences for volunteers with physical disabilities, our current farm infrastructure (including roads, barns, hoop houses and bathrooms) are not set up to provide accessible and obstacle free paths. A majority of the farm tasks involve repeated motions of crouching down, bending over, lifting, pushing and pulling harvest buckets, tools, and equipment. Participants and staff always have the option to opt out, ask for assistance and switch to another task if they do not feel comfortable performing any of these tasks. Please let us know if you have any concerns about tasks and your safety. For further accessibility questions and information, please contact Amara Ullauri at programs@rocksteadyfarm.com
**** For the safety of our farm team and other volunteers, please leave you furry animal companions (pets) at home. However, we do welcome Emotional Support and Service Animals***
Language: Farm communication (including farm task instruction) is delivered in English, though some farmers speak and understand Spanish. We acknowledge that there is a diversity of language represented within our communities and invite you to express yourself in the language of choice especially when needing to express something that the English language just cannot encapsulate. We currently do not have language interpreters and ask that you support us in understanding the meaning of your message until we can offer full language justice support.
Getting Here*: Rock Steady Farm is located 2 hours north of New York City, 30 minutes east of the Hudson River and along the Connecticut/Massachusetts border in Millerton, NY. Our address is: 41 Kaye Road, Millerton NY 12546. Please email us if you need additional support in finding the best route here.
By Train: You can take the Metro North train (Harlem Line) from Grand Central in NYC (or Harlem-125th Street) Station, to Wassaic Station (check the schedule online). There is often an easy transfer in Southeast Station where all passengers walk across the platform to switch trains. The Wassaic station is a 20 minute drive away from the farm, you will need to coordinate additional transportation to arrive at the farm because there is no public transportation between the station and the farm. You can view a list of Taxi services here. The Harlem Valley Rail Trail does connect the station to the farm if you would like to bike. Please email us if you need additional support.
By Car: GPS/Google Maps works fine: 41 Kaye Road, Millerton NY 12546. Please read below to help you navigate the last few miles coming from the south:
Heading North on 22, from the light in the Village of Millerton, continue straight on 22 for 3 more miles
Turn right on County Route 62 / Rudd Pond Road
Within 1/2 mile, BEFORE the road turns sharply to the right, CAREFULLY continue STRAIGHT towards the triangle and then STRAIGHT onto Kaye Road
Follow Kaye Road and look out for signs that read VOLUNTEER PARKING along the farm fence.
Carpooling: You can sign up to drive others to/from the farm or request a ride using the following links that correspond to each workday.
10/1 Community Workday Carpool Sign Up
Housing / Camping: At this moment we cannot offer any overnight stays at the farm. If you are interested in camping, Rudd Pond State Park is down the road and has campsites available.
